About

The Tabernacle is owned by the Whitfield Tabernacle Trust, a charitable trust set up in 2017 by local people with the aim of saving the building to conserve its historical significance and improve it for the benefit of the local community. Working in collaboration with South Gloucestershire Council and the West of England Combined Authority, the Tabernacle is now a fundamental contributor to the greater regeneration of Kingswood.

Bringing the building back to life for arts, education, history and community.

Our Vision

Recognising its history as a meeting house and school room, the vision is to provide a unique and flexible space that will bring something new to Kingswood: a destination venue for a wide range of creative activities, performing arts, community programming and an educational offering. The building will include a permanent exhibition that explains its historical significance and will provide a space for people to meet in and use. It will be complementary to other amenities and businesses in the area, and whilst remaining strongly connected to the Kingswood community it will attract interest and support from people ‘around the corner and around the world’.

Our Aims and Objectives

  1. Community engagement and education through experiential arts, and performing arts.

  2. To support the personal development and enrichment of the community through experience and education of arts, music and entertainment.

  3. Encourage social inclusion and cohesion through community arts, education, history and community discoveries.

  4. To inspire creativity, imagination and enjoyment.

Want to join the team?

Although we are now working with professional arts consultants, as a new community based charitable project and venue, The Tabernacle is looking for people to get involved and help build something really special. We would be very interested to hear from anyone who can offer time and experience in a wide variety of roles and responsibilities. Of particular interest are skills and experience around the roles of Treasurer, Equality and Policies, Health & Safety and Fundraising.

If you are interested, please get involved.
